Enschede Energy and Pontus launch unique pilot with direct energy delivery

ENSCHEDE – Enschede Energie and Pontus Heattreatment are starting a pilot for the direct supply of electricity. From now on, the Enschede-based sustainable energy cooperative will supply electricity directly to the Kennispark-based heat treatment specialist Pontus. Nationwide, this is the first time a local energy producer has applied the so-called Self-supply Model+ in this way.

Pontus uses a lot of energy in its production and therefore needs affordable but also sustainable electricity. “Enschede Energie is a partner who wanted to work with us to find the best way to meet our energy needs as sustainably as possible. We find it very important to have as small a footprint as possible.” said Pontus managing director Geert Wubben.

It is a win-win situation. Pontus meets part of its energy needs in a sustainable and cheaper way and Enschede Energie can sell the power generated by its solar plants locally for a better fee. This is because a link has been taken out of the process. There is no power company involved that incurs costs and thus charges a higher electricity tariff.
